Overview
The Design Engineer, who is a member of the Product Development team, is responsible for the creation of 3D models, 2D article drawings and predictive simulations for new packages that Graham Packaging commercializes. The Design Engineer is also responsible for utilizing cutting-edge design tools, such as CT scanners for reverse engineering and 3D printers for developing quick prototype samples.
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties of a Design Engineer include:
* Develop 3D models and engineering drawings for bottles, labels, gauges and quality specifications.
* Execute predictive simulation models via FEA and interpret results to inform optimal product design and product development decision making.
* Develop prototype models as part of the commercialization of new products.
* Develop prototype molds used for lab sampling blow molders.
* Develop and document the fundamental knowledge of designing bottles through design rules, limit/tradeoff curves, engineering models, process maps and other tools.
* Drive continuous improvement in product development standard work that impacts the quality and timely completion of projects.
* Write formal technical reports on the results of design and simulation work.
* Reverse engineer existing products by scanning bottles and creating 3D files.
Qualifications
Core Proficiencies and Skills
The following skills and proficiencies are essential requirements of the position:
* Proficient skills utilizing surfacing/solid modeling software such as Siemens NX.
* Basic skills utilizing FEA software.
* Knowledge of rapid prototyping including molds and models.
* Experience in reverse engineering pertaining to scanners and scan data manipulation.
* Understanding of scientific and engineering principals.
* Understanding of data analysis.
* Ability to develop technical engineering reports.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills along with solid questioning skills.
* Travel up to 10% at times.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
* BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics, Industrial).
* 2 to 4 years professional experience in product design/development.
Compensation Statement
The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
