The University of Strathclyde, in collaboration with GSK, is offering a fully funded PhD position starting in October 2025 for 3.5 years. This position also includes an opportunity to undertake a placement at GSK. The PhD is open to UK students or those who qualify for Home Fee status.
Research Focus:
S-acylation, often referred to as palmitoylation, is a reversible post-translational modification involving the attachment of fatty acids to proteins. This process influences protein membrane binding, localization, and function.
This project will:
1. Study the interactions between S-acylation enzymes and their substrates
2. Develop novel enzyme inhibitors to uncover the role of this important post-translational modification in cell physiology
The Strathclyde supervisors of this PhD are Prof. Luke Chamberlain, Dr. Rebecca Beveridge, and Prof. Nick Tomkinson.
Candidate Profile:
1. A Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology) or at least a 2i honours degree in a relevant discipline
2. Strong analytical and laboratory skills
This position is open to UK students or those who qualify for Home Fee status.
