About the Emergency Department & Registrar position

We are a well-resourced department which has been operational for over 20 years, with yearly attendances of over 25,000 and a 40 percent admission rate reflective of high patient complexity and acuity. We expanded in 2019 to 28-beds with intra-departmental X-ray, CT, and ultrasound. We enjoy a highly collegiate relationship with our inpatient specialist colleagues making referrals a smooth experience.
We are accredited by ACEM for 12 months of training as a non-major referral ED for all training stages excluding TS4, however we can accept post-TS 3 trainees on an interruption to training who are seeking to take advantage of our highly regarded Written and Clinical Fellowship (OSCE) Examination preparation program. We are also accredited for Paediatric Log Book, Paediatric WBAs, and Paediatric Emergency Portfolio. We are affiliated with Monash University for medical student education.
Our highly successful Fellowship Exam Education program is run by an enthusiastic, experienced teaching team offering exposure to ACEM examiners. Since 2019 we have had an overall 82% success rate in the Written and Clinical Fellowship Examinations.
We provide weekly Education and Fellowship Teaching protected time along with excellent paediatrics experience (20% case mix) and access to regular in-house Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation and Adult ALS Courses. A Cabrini practice Fellowship Clinical Exam for Cabrini Registrars has been successfully run since 2017 and continues in partnership with The Austin Hospital twice a year. We also have a FACEM-led in-situ multidisciplinary simulation program.
