G&H is a global leader in optical design, testing, and manufacturing. As experts in photonics, we collaborate with customers to develop cutting-edge optical systems, assemblies, and components for the most demanding applications. We are seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to drive the creation, delivery, and design of New Product Introduction (NPI), re-design, and R&D projects at our St Asaph site. This role is pivotal in providing technical leadership, ensuring adherence to industry and company standards (including AS9100 accreditation), and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team to achieve engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards
2. Manage task allocation within the St Asaph engineering team, balancing skills, workload, and professional development
3. Spearhead the development of new processes, R&D initiatives, and continuous improvement projects
4. Oversee specification and execution of self-funded design projects (CAPEX)
5. Perform the role of Lead Engineer within NPI, Design, and R&D processes
6. Contribute to Design for Manufacture (DFM) efforts for new product development
7. Lead prototype testing and oversee customer deliverable product validation
8. Implement best design and manufacturing practices from across the G&H Group
9. Drive Lean and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives within the organisation
10. Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and capability/repeatability improvement activities
11. Manage projects aimed at improving quality, cost efficiency, and process effectiveness
Minimum Requirements
1. Strong background in design and/or manufacturing engineering within an NPI environment
2. Proven leadership experience in multi-disciplinary teams, with a focus on mentoring and team development
3. Hands-on experience in problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement practices
4. Ability to work flexibly to meet project deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
5. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively
6. Experience in technical training and fostering a culture of learning
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
8. Experience in optical manufacturing, optomechanical engineering principles, and modern manufacturing techniques
9. Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC)
10. Expertise in process mapping, PFMEA/control plan development, and measurement system analysis
11. Strong coaching and conflict resolution skills to support team collaboration and problem resolution
12. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
