We have a great opportunity to join the Dietetic team at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. We have a vacancy for a part-time (0.6 WTE) Band 6 Surgical Dietitian, fixed term for 12 months. The successful candidate will be part of the Surgical and Gastroenterology Dietetics team and will be involved in delivering specialist inpatient and outpatient services to our patients.
The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic team of 6 surgical dietitians, ACP and a dietetic support worker. This role offers a wide range of benefits including the opportunity for flexible working, as well as a range of professional development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
This post involves managing an inpatient caseload on the Surgical wards as well as a monthly specialist outpatient clinic. The successful candidate will work closely with MDT colleagues including consultants, surgeons and specialist nurses. Clinical areas covered include: upper GI, lower GI, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general surgery, pancreatic disease, complex oral and enteral nutrition support. There will be an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in parenteral nutrition and critical care.
In addition to clinical work, the post holder will have the opportunity to develop supervision skills by supporting junior staff and students, to actively participate in service improvement and audit and the opportunity to develop and deliver new ways of working.
Team working, excellent communication and prioritisation skills are essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will:
* Provide a high-quality nutrition and dietetic service to patients, carers and staff at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals.
* Take responsibility for managing and providing the majority of the services required and planning this effectively.
* Support more junior or less experienced staff as required.
* Contribute to student training.
* Communicate and collaborate with team members, other HCPs and partner organisations to support service improvements.

Qualifications and Further Training
* 4 year degree in Dietetics (or equivalent qualification).
* Registration with HCPC.
* Membership of the British Dietetic Association.
* Member of the BDA PENG Group.
* Practice educator/student supervisory skills course.
* Post registration course in Nutrition Support.
Experience
* Experience of clinical dietetics within the NHS.
* Experience in enteral and oral nutritional support practices.
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Experience delivering and/or developing training and education to healthcare professionals.
* Experience of delivering outpatient clinics.
* Experience of conducting audits or service evaluation.
* Specific experience of managing surgical patients.
* Experience of managing patients on parenteral nutrition.
Knowledge
* Specialist knowledge of nutrition support, including enteral feeding.
* Knowledge of specialist dietary interventions used within surgery.
Skills
