Distribution System Operation (DSO) involves us delivering an increasingly smart and flexible energy system for our customers that delivers a greener grid, with maximum resilience at minimal overall cost. As a Local System Planning Engineer reporting into the Regional Insights Manager, you will be part of the Energy Systems team involved in delivering an increasingly smart and flexible energy system for our customers that delivers a greener grid, with maximum resilience at minimal overall cost.

What will you do?
1. Work as part of our Regional Insights Team to deliver enhanced external engagement to develop a joined-up view of how local authority and other key regional stakeholder plans impact our investment programmes.
2. Seek opportunities to maximise the value from our investment as a result of the engagement and support the production of Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs).
3. Ensure effective two-way flow of data and intelligence on regional decarbonisation with parties such as local authorities, housing authorities and mass Low Carbon Technology (LCT) installers.
4. Check mutual compatibility of Local Authority and Northern Powergrid energy forecasts and explain differences.
5. Use local intelligence on regional decarbonisation projects to enhance the company’s investment forecasts and delivery.
6. Use external dialogue to guide the enhancements in data and open analytics we provide.

What qualifications and experience should you have?
1. Level 5 or 6 (HND, degree, or equivalent) in STEM subject, or a level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC) with commensurate relevant experience.
2. Understanding of power system design and operation.
3. Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
4. Full driving licence is desirable.
