The Specialist Medicine Therapy team at Royal Derby Hospital are recruiting to a full time, Band 6 Occupational Therapist post.
The post holder will be joining an established, vibrant and friendly team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and assistant staff who share an office base and work closely together to provide a consistent and responsive Therapy service to all the Acute Medicine wards.
Main duties of the job
Prior experience as a senior OT is not essential if you have gained relevant skills and experience as a Band 5 and have a passion for Acute Medicine.
You will enhance clinical skills and knowledge working with a variety of patients which include Renal, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Gastrology, Hepatology and Cardiology, providing advanced Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment and providing specialist advice and support to other professionals throughout the Trust.
Excellent problem solving skills are a must, to ensure strength-based, holistic and patient-centered quality care.
Experience in managing complex discharges in a fast-paced acute hospital environment is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary and Therapy team.
This will involve working closely with the other senior OTs and Physiotherapists to ensure optimum service delivery and delay avoidance.
You will have experience in working in Acute Medicine and will be expected to play an active role in the development of the service and the individuals within the service.
You will be required to carry a caseload independently and provide supervision and support to assist more junior OT staff as necessary. You must also be adaptable, calm and be able to effectively delegate work to OT and assistant staff within the team to ensure priorities across the service are covered.

Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications
* Degree or Equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Member of RCOT or equivalent.
Knowledge
* Experience in collecting data/participating in audits.
* Experience working in Acute Medicine.
* Evidence of CPD and Specialist interest group.
Experience
* Have experience supervising staff.
* Have experience of working in the acute sector of the NHS.
* Evidence of teaching/ delivering training.
* Experience of working with a variety of Acute Medical patients as post Grad.
* Able to plan and prioritise caseload.
* Experience in working with community and social sectors.
* Experience with delegating to others and working with support staff.
