See Job Description for further details. To receive and collate patients samples when they first arrive in the laboratory and perform the preliminary processing of specimens prior to analysis. To store and keep detailed archive of samples and perform any clerical duties required. To maintain an up to date knowledge of new developments in the laboratory. To bring to the attention of BMS staff any problem specimens, urgent requests, leaking samples or any specimens that do not collate to the request form. Notify senior BMS staff of stock usage and what needs to be ordered. To report any adverse incidents or non-conformities or breaches of health and safety to a BMS or senior BMS. Temperature monitoring of fridge, freezers, incubators and the environment. General housekeeping including, removal of waste from the department, cleaning of safety cabinets, centrifuges and work surfaces, prepares disinfectants for use, regularly defrosts fridges and freezers. Provides wards and clinics with Cryoglobulin sample pick up and transport. Assists BMS staff with the retrieval of samples for processing and sending away samples to reference laboratories. To attend laboratory meetings and encourage to participate in CPD. To participate in Quality activities, such as audit and investigation of non-conformities. To participate in H&S activities, such as risk and COSHH assessment.
