Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and compassionate Consultant Midwife to join our team, working across maternity services to support the professional midwifery agenda to achieve consistency of practice and high standards of care for all women and birthing people.
The postholder will support the current Consultant Midwife and work closely with senior leaders within our maternity service, other maternity teams and key stakeholders to develop and support a maternity service that is focused on quality, safety, personalised care and experience. You will be passionate about strong, visible and compassionate leadership and be willing to lead and facilitate change through clinical practice, research, audit, education and training.
Main duties of the job
Clinical expert in field of midwifery and fulfil the 4 domains of Midwife Consultant:
- Advanced & expert level practice within midwifery
- Leadership & consultancy
- Development & provision of education and training
- Service development, evaluation, research and audit.
Work across SMH service, support GMEC Local Maternity & Neonatal System. Provide Leadership, expert practice & advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing/leading research in clinical field. Minimum of 50% of portfolio in direct autonomous clinical practice and leadership.
Monitor and improve standards through: supervision of practice, clinical audit, identifying research, disseminating findings and promoting translation into practice, teaching and supporting colleagues, provision of skilled leadership. Contribute to safeguarding & clinical effectiveness in service by participating in audit and research in the MDT in specialist field. Practice across the health economy as required by client group.
Be involved with national/international research contributing to networks, supporting development of centres of excellence in midwifery.
Maintain and develop local/national profile as Consultant Midwife by being leader in further developing services for women.
Job plan will be agreed to meet service needs, reviewed annually or more as required.
