We are looking for dedicated individuals to support children and young people with a variety of special educational needs (SEN) in schools and specialist provisions across Wakefield. This is a fantastic opportunity to provide essential support, ensuring pupils receive the guidance they need to succeed in their education.
About the Role: In this role, you will be working with pupils who have a broad spectrum of SEN, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and other complex learning requirements. Your support will be crucial in helping these children access education, build independence, and develop the confidence to engage in learning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Providing tailored support to pupils with SEN, adapting strategies to meet individual learning needs.
2. Using Team Teach techniques to safely manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours in a supportive environment.
3. Assisting with personal care, sensory support, and communication strategies where required.
4. Working closely with teachers and SENCOs to deliver personalised learning plans.
5. Encouraging social development, emotional resilience, and positive behaviour.
Why Work With Us?
1. Flexible Working Patterns – Opportunities that fit around your availability.
2. Professional Development – Gain experience in different SEN settings and access ongoing training.
3. Career Progression – Many roles lead to long-term or permanent positions in specialist provisions and schools.
4. Competitive Pay – Recognising your skills and dedication to supporting children with additional needs.
What We’re Looking For:
1. A valid Team Teach qualification (essential).
2. Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, including SEMH, ASD, PMLD, or behavioural challenges.
3. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
4. While own transport is beneficial, it is not a requirement.
Location: We have opportunities available across Wakefield and surrounding areas, including Pontefract, Castleford, and Normanton.
If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with SEN, we would love to hear from you.
