We are also contracted under Tender No: 423704 for Non-Emergency Ambulance Patient Transport Services, supporting the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Health and Social Care Trusts. Job Summary/Main Purpose The Ambulance Care Attendant will be responsible for the safe, compassionate, and efficient transportation of patients between hospitals, clinics, events, and home addresses. The role requires strong communication skills to engage effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals while ensuring safety and professional standards are maintained. Duties and Responsibilities Drive ambulance vehicles in compliance with the Highway Code, adhering to company policies. Plan and coordinate patient journeys efficiently, considering appointment schedules and clinical requirements. Perform daily vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness and report defects promptly. Maintain and restock ambulance equipment in accordance with company protocols. Operate communication systems securely, maintaining confidentiality. Provide clinical care in line with your training and scope of practice. Use patient handling equipment safely, ensuring proper risk assessments. Secure patients during transit using approved equipment and seatbelts. Transport patients with consideration for their medical and emotional needs, including end-of-life care. Ensure patient property is securely stored and limited to one small bag. Communicate effectively with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and carers. Report incidents, safeguarding concerns, and near-misses according to policy. Dispose of clinical waste in compliance with regulations. Undertake mandatory training and maintain Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Handle and store medicines securely. Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including appropriate use of PPE. Complete accurate patient report forms (PRFs) and ensure data security. Adhere to data protection and confidentiality standards. Maintain high standards of uniform presentation. Personnel Specification JOB TITLE / BAND: Ambulance Care Attendant (ACA) ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Qualifications: IHCD Ambulance Care Assistant Qualification or equivalent Level 2 qualification in Ambulance Care. 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications. Experience: At least one year of operational experience in a similar role. Driving Requirements: Full, clean driving licence with Categories C1 and D1. Declare all penalty points (maximum of three allowed). Skills and Training: Basic Life Support (BLS) with Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) Adult and Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy Infection Prevention and Control Moving and Handling Patients, including bariatric care Patient Assessment Safeguarding Adults and Children Effective Communication Skills Risk Assessment and Management Assessment: Pass an entrance exam covering numeracy, literacy, and the Highway Code.
