Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and well-established team of Anaesthetists as a consultant in paediatric anaesthesia at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. 'The L&D' has a total of 641 beds across all disciplines and serves a local population of over 400,000 from Luton, Dunstable and towns and villages in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The Anaesthetic department has four Consultants with a specific interest in Paediatrics (including infants and babies less than six months old) and many others who regularly anaesthetise children. The department provides anaesthesia for Paediatric general surgery (including infants), Paediatric MRI, Paediatric ENT, OMFS, Orthopaedics (including infants), Urology, Community dental services, and Ophthalmic surgery (including infants). Luton and Dunstable hospital is located within easy access to central London and the Midlands. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes' drive from the hospital. There are many attractive villages and towns nearby like St Albans and Harpenden which has excellent schools. Closing Date: 19th March 2025 Assessment Date: 16th April 2025 Interview Date: 28th April 2025 Main duties of the job The appointee will join the well-established Anaesthetics Department as part of a service development plan, where we currently have a new Acute Surgical Block (ASB) under construction which is due for completion in 2025. The Acute Services Block will include a complete new maternity department, NICU, eight new operating theatres (adjoined to six existing) and a 22 bed critical care unit. The Paediatric is Unit renowned in the East of England as a very busy unit seeing a combination of high volume common conditions and also many rare conditions and recognised for offering top paediatric training. All children admitted as inpatients by any team are cared for on the Paediatric Unit which consists of 54 beds incorporating 3 wards and a 5 bed Paediatric Assessment Unit occupying one floor of the surgical block. Applicants must be included in the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthetics or be within six months of CCT accreditation. The successful applicants will provide a comprehensive high quality Anaesthesia service.
