Position Summary
The Perioperative Department Director exercises independent judgment in the direction, assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nursing care provided to patients in the Perioperative Services Department. This leadership position is responsible for managing all functions related to Perioperative Services and Central Sterile Services including management of personnel, assigning and directing patient care, the scheduling of surgeries, development of policies and procedures, management of resources, budgeting and quality activities to assure safe, efficient care. This position is competent in the job functions of an RN in Perioperative Services. Together with the Perioperative Staff, this position works collaboratively with patients and their families, Medical Staff, Nursing, Administration, support and ancillary service personnel to ensure all care is provided within the framework of the Code of Conduct. This Director participates as an active member of the Nursing Department Management Team and works collaboratively with the members to promote safe, effective patient care and to promote staff growth and satisfaction. Other duties may be required as delegated by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
* Education: BSN required. MSN preferred.
* License/Certifications: Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Maine.
* Experience: Six (6) years of experience in acute perioperative nursing with three years’ experience in nursing management.
* Strong organizational skills; extensive knowledge of AORN and perioperative standards of care.
* Strong leadership and communication skills with a team orientation.
