The Role
Due to ongoing expansion, we are seeking to recruit a Health and Safety Systems Advisor to support the improvement and continual development of the Group Health and Safety (H&S) management system. The ideal candidate will facilitate the alignment of operating divisions with health and safety management processes and systems, ensuring the company maintains a safe and compliant working environment. As a key member of the H&S team, you will work closely with the Group and Divisions to review and improve health and safety management procedures. You will assist in providing competent advice and guidance and ensure compliance with the latest H&S legislation. You will also support the Group during external ISO 45001 audits and help with the development and delivery of effective training programs.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
1. Support the continual improvement of the Group Health and Safety management system.
2. Liaise with operating Divisions to align H&S systems and processes.
3. Maintain and coordinate the review of the H&S legal register and assist with changes to legislation.
4. Continuously review and improve H&S management systems and procedures, following appropriate stakeholder engagement.
5. Undertake appraisals of the Group’s H&S management system and identify opportunities for improvement.
6. Assess requests for changes to Group H&S documents and provide feedback to the Group H&S Manager.
7. Provide support during external ISO 45001 audits.
8. Identify and coordinate appropriate training and development for staff to meet legislative and business requirements.
9. Monitor the quality of internal training and provide recommendations for improvements.
10. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic H&S plans.
11. Support the development and monitoring of corporate H&S objectives and targets.
12. Promote continuous improvement within the Group.
13. Contribute to the preparation of Board Reports for the Group H&S Manager.
14. Provide competent advice on health and safety responsibilities for employees and supply chains.
15. Assist in assessing health, safety, and wellbeing risks, providing guidance on preventative measures.
16. Support the development and implementation of Group H&S policies and procedures.
17. Carry out or assist in accident and incident investigations when necessary.
About You
We are looking for a candidate with an industry background in general construction, civil engineering, utilities or facilities management, with experience in ISO 45001. A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification, along with ISO 45001 Internal Auditor certification, will be essential. You must also hold IOSH membership and demonstrate high-level communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills. The ability to motivate and influence others, strong time management, and excellent IT skills are also key to this role. The role requires a proactive and organised individual who can assess risks, deliver H&S advice, and drive improvements to safety management systems. Previous experience within health and safety roles, particularly within construction or civil engineering environments, is preferred.
Skills/Knowledge
1. ISO 45001 Awareness and Internal Auditor certification.
2. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
3. Industry background in general construction or civil engineering and facilities management.
4. Membership of IOSH.
5. Strong IT skills (including Excel and databases).
6. Excellent communication, negotiation, and information management skills.
7. Ability to motivate and influence others.
8. Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
9. Time management skills.
