An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in the Area Sterilising & Decontamination Department (ASDU) located in the Borders General Hospital. The department sterilises and processes medical instruments and equipment for all areas of NHS Borders. This post comes with the opportunity to gain further education and qualifications in the field of Decontamination. We are looking for a highly motivated person to join our team.
On a daily basis, staff members within ASDU are required to handle reusable medical devices, including sharps, many of which are contaminated with blood and bodily fluids. Staff are also required to handle heavy instrument trays, push trolleys within the different areas of the department, load/unload/run and test washers and autoclaves and deliver sterile product throughout the Hospital.
Shifts will be 37hrs, 4 days per week, covering the department from 07:00 – 18:00 with additional coverage on Saturday mornings.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
