A vacancy exists for a Design Manager within the Engineering Department at Roxel UK.
The design department creates new and modified rocket motors and associated systems, as well as analyzes rocket motor designs, including:
* Ballistic performance prediction and modeling
* Propellant charge and hardware stress analysis
* Documentation services
* Maintenance of design manuals and knowledge databases
Responsibilities
The role holder oversees a team of design analysts and documentation configuration engineers to manage tasks, projects, and activities within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead a team of analysts and documentation configuration engineers to deliver the functions and objectives of the team according to business plans and requirements.
* Plan and prioritize immediate tasks with the team for short-term and mid-term requirements.
* Manage inputs into the design manual for capturing knowledge management for the engineering department.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve analysis capabilities at Roxel.
* Ensure accurate ballistic and stress analysis.
* Ensure high-quality documentation configuration and strive to improve OTD (on-time delivery) of deliverables.
* Report progress on tasks, issues, and progress weekly.
* Monitor on-time delivery of tasks and take corrective action when necessary.
* Manage people strategy, including setting objectives, training, development, recruitment, talent management, and succession planning.
* Bid and pre-concept phase support/management.
* Lead future propulsion concept scoping.
* Provide technical management – project support, investigations, customer engagement, etc.
Requirements
Candidates should have a formal qualification (HNC, HND, or degree) in Physics, applied mathematics, or a relevant engineering discipline and possess previous relevant experience.
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and experience in:
* Leadership of technical projects
* Supervision or management of people
* Design of aerospace and defense products
* Environmental trials (e.g., simulated aging, vibration)
* Structural tests (e.g., launch and flight loads)
* Product modeling software and techniques
* Customer design and production reviews
* Engineering drawing and configuration management
* Aerospace and defense standards
Candidates should also exhibit:
* Interest and aptitude in all aspects of engineering
* Awareness of new technologies and latest design practices
* Ability to communicate technical subjects to non-specialists
* Ability to develop and motivate people
* Drive to succeed and improve
* Record of meeting customer expectations
* Proficiency in general office and conferencing software
