Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor post in Histopathology. Applicants should have full GMC registration (licence to practice) and should have evidence of appropriate training in histopathology.
The Histopathology department at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester offers an opportunity to work within an efficient and high-quality laboratory with supportive colleagues, continually striving for excellence and improvement in the service.
Main duties of the job
The appointees will be expected to participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and in relevant quality assurance and proficiency testing. They will participate in the histopathology rota covering histopathology and cytology reporting, specimen dissection, and providing histopathology support at MDT meetings.
In line with the Trusts’ academic strategies, the appointee will be required to participate in the development of the Department’s research portfolio.
The philosophy of the Trusts is to promote multidisciplinary working and learning. Therefore, the appointee will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary teaching of students attached to the Department.
The Departments are actively engaged in audit of its activities which is an ongoing process and to which the post-holder is expected to contribute.
The post holder is expected to participate in the Department’s rolling Clinical Governance half-day meetings held monthly, maintain their own skills and competencies through Continual Professional Development (CPD), participate in Clinical Audit and Effectiveness work, and Research and Development, as appropriate.
Working for our organisation
The hospital is a Cancer Unit of the Dorset Cancer Network for the provision of services for patients with various malignancies. A recent development has seen the establishment of a Satellite Radiotherapy Centre on site in Dorchester, run by the Poole Cancer Centre.
The Pathology Department is part of the One Dorset Pathology (ODP) that includes the two hospitals at Poole and Bournemouth (UHD; University Hospital Dorset).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointees will be expected to participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and in relevant quality assurance and proficiency testing. They will participate in the histopathology rota covering histopathology and cytology reporting, specimen dissection, and providing histopathology support at MDT meetings.
The post-holders will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients, and the running of their clinical department under the direction of the Lead Clinical and/or Clinical Director.

* Full GMC Registration with licence to practice.
* Evidence of relevant experience in Histopathology.
* A relevant higher qualification.
