Job Title: Communications Officer
Location: Hybrid (Remote & Office in Thurrock)
Pay Rate: £23.63 per hour
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and creative Communications Officer with local government communications experience. You will support the development and delivery of communication strategies, manage proactive campaigns, and handle media relations to ensure consistent messaging across multiple channels.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver communication strategies for internal and external audiences.
* Manage proactive campaigns and reactive media responses.
* Translate complex messages into clear, engaging copy.
* Support digital communications, including social media.
* Handle media relations, press releases, and briefings.
* Use research to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
* Support crisis communications when necessary.
* Promote income generation opportunities, including sponsorship and filming locations.
Requirements:
* Local government communications experience is essential.
* Proven experience in media liaison, marketing, or internal communications.
* Strong writing, project management, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
* Politically astute and able to handle sensitive issues.
* Proficient in digital communication, including social media.
* Knowledge of local government and its legal constraints.
Desirable:
* Experience with communication channel shift, including email marketing.
* Ability to work with senior staff and maintain confidentiality.
Working Hours: Occasional evening/weekend work may be required.
