The Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a heritage site, just outside Bristol, run by the Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust. In addition to heritage and cultural events, WMB can be hired out privately for weddings, funerals, celebrations, and corporate functions.
The WMBT is looking for contracted staff to support our Event Managers cover these events, which take place at various points throughout the week (primarily evenings and weekends).
What you'll be doing
As an Event Assistant at WMB, you will be the main point of contact for the client and their guests on the day of their event, reporting to and following direction of the Event Manager. Your duties may include:
1. Opening and closing the building for events.
2. Ensuring that all relevant Health and Safety, and Safeguarding procedures are followed and proactively mitigating any potential issues.
3. Welcoming clients and their guests.
4. Being hands-on during events to assist those using the grounds, and supporting the Event Manager to ensure that any problems are dealt with as they arise.
5. Ensuring the historic buildings are treated with respect and in line with the hire agreement.
6. Preparing and serving drinks and snacks.
7. Setting up rooms ready for events where required.
8. Some minor cleaning duties are expected.
What you'll need
1. First Aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
2. Experience in a hospitality or events setting, including private, special events and weddings.
3. Experience in cash-handling.
4. Experience as a 'Key Holder'.
5. Ability to move furniture and stand for extended periods of time.
6. Ability to work both in a team and autonomously.
7. Ability to remain calm and efficient during busy periods.
8. Willingness to work to a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings as needed.
9. Willingness to hit the ground running and pick up all types of tasks.
10. Excellent attention to detail.
11. Interest in, and empathy, with the values of the WMBT and an interest in making history and heritage accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

1. Experience working in a front-line customer service role.
2. Ability to creatively and proactively respond to the needs of customers/clients/visitors.
3. Effective conflict management skills.
4. Understanding of the unique challenges of delivery events in a heritage building.
5. Access to a car and full UK Driving License.
