Senior Mechanical Engineer
Initial 6 Month Contract - 2-3 days on site per week
£58.06 per hour (Inside IR35)
Responsibilities:
1. Lead the development of solutions to technical issues as a member of a project team, reporting to Technical Leads and directly to the customer.
2. Develop design solutions based on customer or internally derived requirements, validating and verifying through the design process.
3. Review and check design work and technical reports, providing help and direction to less experienced engineers.
4. Carry out technical analysis and investigations, preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
5. Plan, deliver, and monitor assigned projects or work packages, ensuring that requirements are delivered to plan.
6. Populate design development documentation using a Formal Design Review process (FDR) through the stages of:
1. Requirements & Root Cause Analysis
2. Developing Candidate Solutions
3. Candidate down selection and risk reduction
4. Development for manufacture
5. Qualification
6. Concept generation and development of weapons sub systems.
7. Weight optimization of systems/structures via re-design and/or use of advanced materials.
7. Develop designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards.
8. Perform technical investigations, including evaluation of technical options, supporting calculations, and preparation of reports with recommendations.
9. Integrate sub-systems into an evolving product design, including laboratory tests, shop-floor development testing, and off-site trials.
10. Participate in bid preparation to facilitate the development of successful bids.
11. Participate in internal and external meetings or design reviews.
12. Definition and control of interfaces via interface control drawings and space envelopes.
13. Ensure that the product will operate safely and reliably in the military operating environment, and can be manufactured cost effectively.
14. Prepare drawings and other technical outputs consistent with the contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands.
15. Support quality related to production NCR's (non-conformance reports) and first article inspection.
16. Interface with related supporting functions such as Procurement and Quality.
17. Design components for ease of manufacture and aid in the productionisation of products.

Essential:

5. Experienced in CAD (ideally PTC Creo, Solidworks, Inventor or similar)
Desirable:
1. Engineering background in a weapons system or design for military use.
2. Structural/Stress analysis (MS Excel, Mathcad, FEA {PTC Simulate / Ansys})
3. System control (Matlab/Simulink)
4. Hydraulic system design
5. Material selection and manufacturing techniques
6. Product Lifecycle Management Tool experience (ideally Teamcenter)
