We at Brewood Medical Practice/ Midlands Community Services are looking for an enthusiastic member of staff to join our friendly dispensary team. This role is mainly based at our branch surgery at Wheaton Aston. Wheaton Aston is a lovely, small friendly semi-rural village to whom the practice dispense medication to from the GP practice. The practice building has undergone recent modernisation in order to improve the service provided to patients, this includes a new dispensary. Our dispensary team consists of Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians.
Main duties of the job
The role includes helping dispense medication to patients in a timely manner, assisting with temperature monitoring of areas where medication is stored, maintaining accurate record keeping, checking stock levels and topping these up, unpacking and putting away orders of medication, ensuring any patient returned medication is dealt with appropriately in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring that all SOPs are adhered to, giving advice to patients relating to medication under the supervision of a pharmacist (ensuring that anything you are unsure of is referred to the pharmacist), undertaking admin duties, using the EMIS clinical system, and aiding with queries from other members of the practice team where appropriate. Selling over the counter medication to customers for minor ailments, advising and referring to the pharmacist when appropriate.

Job responsibilities
To work alongside pharmacist pharmacy technicians and under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
To provide medicines-related and healthy lifestyle advice to patients.
To have completed an accredited NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) Dispensing Assistant training course.
It is desirable that the candidate has undertaken a NVQ level 2 in Medicine counter assistant course.
Key Responsibilities
* To select and label pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements.
* To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients.
* To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.
* To identify medicine-related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist.
* To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within your competence.
* To receive stock in accordance with SOPs.
* To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines, undertaking temperature monitoring.
* To assist with stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels.
* To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in providing the best service for patients.
* To undertake the preparation of Monitored Dosage Systems.
* To respond to symptoms described by customers by following agreed protocols and using own knowledge and judgement.
* To select and recommend suitable products and provide advice on their correct use.
* To provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
* To refer to the pharmacist when appropriate.
* To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medicines and minor ailments by reading journals, product information and training resources.
* To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by the pharmacist.
* Handle cash and electronic payments for prescription charges and other goods/services.

Qualifications
* GCSE C or equivalent in Maths.
* NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing Assistant Training Course.
