Our client is a leading manufacturer where robust and effective procurement processes are an integral part of business performance and growth objectives. The company is looking to strengthen its purchasing expertise; in particular drive improvements in the procurement function and provide clearer leadership to the team. The role reports into the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
1. Take responsibility for the procurement functions across two sites as well as the information systems needed to co-ordinate its activities.
2. Develop and communicate a procurement business plan; establish, communicate and implement long-term goals for the department in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
3. Critically evaluate procurement processes and lead the development/implementation of improvements working towards 'best practice'.
4. Serve as the primary contact for procurement related questions, training, policy and procedure interpretation and alignment by all departments.
5. Manage current procurement policies, processes, procedures and programs with a focus on their ability to enhance organizational value and efficiency; meet regularly with respective departments regarding procurement for their understanding and/or recommendations to enhance policies, procedures and develop, communicate and implement new/revised policies, procedures and programs as needed.
6. Review current key supplier contracts and identify any areas for improvement leading up to the tendering process.
7. Promote close working relationship with all stakeholder departments including and especially, manufacturing, planning, logistics.
8. Develop and Implement Supplier Excellence and Vendor Rating Procedures in conjunction with Safety, Quality, Environmental and Social Policy.
9. Develop, communicate and administer procurement team performance and development plans and appraisals.
10. Lead and develop the procurement teams to demonstrate a high level of day-to-day control and responsiveness, be focused on driving performance improvement, challenge and thereby look to continually improve business processes, and drive effective communication in the team and motivate them. Develop and mentor direct reports and provide the tools by which they can deliver their objectives.
11. Put in place training plans as required to upskill performance in the supply chain team.
12. Report back to the Executive team on KPI's and progress in performance management.
Candidate Profile:
1. Proven procurement professional with a strong track record in manufacturing is essential.
2. Working in a purchasing role that involves raw material procurement with commodity linked index reporting (e.g. polymer, paper, steel).
3. Experience of 3PL contracts.
4. Ideally expertise in managing 3rd party manufacturers.
5. Change agent - able to create a vision and deliver 'best-in-class' processes.
6. Strong character - durable and resilient.
7. Positive leadership skills - can direct where required and also mentor team.
8. Good communicator (written and verbal).
9. Strategic and innovative thinker.
10. Organized and calm under pressure.
11. Friendly, approachable and flexible.
12. Proactive, positive, enthusiastic - demonstrates 'can do' approach.
13. Commercially aware and strong negotiator.
