We are excited to announce two new roles we are bringing into our Engineering Team structure at our factory in March.
We are looking for proactive and hands-on Engineering Shift Managers ready to lead a high-performing team. This role is ideal for those who thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring production runs smoothly with minimal downtime while driving engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
About the Role
The Engineering Shift Manager takes charge of the engineering team during their shift, ensuring production and packing equipment operates reliably, safely, and efficiently. This position is crucial in minimising downtime, implementing proactive maintenance, and supporting production teams to achieve operational targets, all while ensuring compliance with engineering, health & safety, and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the shift engineering team, ensuring asset reliability and efficiency.
2. Ensure rapid and effective breakdown response, reducing production disruption.
3. Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and ensure timely completion.
4. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring failures and implement permanent solutions.
5. Collaborate with production and technical teams to enhance equipment performance.
6. Ensure all engineering work is carried out safely and meets compliance requirements.
7. Conduct risk assessments, issue permits to work and oversee contractor activities.
8. Foster a safety-first culture, actively reducing risks and hazards.
9. Motivate, develop, and lead the engineering team for high performance.
10. Support training and upskilling to enhance technical capability.
11. Monitor and manage spare parts usage, ensuring availability while controlling costs.
12. Drive energy efficiency and cost-saving initiatives.
13. Ensure clear and accurate handovers between shifts for seamless operations.
14. Lead continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
What we are looking for:
1. Time-served apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
2. Experience in an engineering management role within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
3. Strong knowledge of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
4. Expertise in fault finding and diagnostics across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
5. Knowledge of compliance requirements, including PUWER, LOLER, and Health & Safety at Work Act.
6. Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a high-pressure production environment.
7. Strong problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement.
8. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with production teams.
9. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health & safety qualification.
10. Familiarity with lean manufacturing and reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) techniques.
11. Experience in working with food safety standards, including BRCGS requirements.
12. Knowledge of CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) for maintenance planning.
