Robert Half are delighted to be working with a multi-disciplinary engineering firm based in central Edinburgh who are seeking a new Financial Controller. The role has come to market due to a retirement scheduled for early 2025, and as such, we are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified accountant to replace the current incumbent, with a significant handover period.
Our client is a true specialist in their field. Since their inception, they've amassed extensive project experience across all sectors of the construction industry. Their team across five different locations includes experienced chartered engineers, technicians, and apprentices. The business is highly ambitious, having trebled it's revenue over the past ten years, with growth plans to grow even further.
This position offers the chance to lead the finance team, improve financial reporting systems, provide consistent financial updates, and collaborate with business leaders to realise their company vision. Ideally suited for someone with prior small to medium enterprise (SME) experience, you will serve as the sole qualified member overseeing all finance functions within a team of four.
Your duties will include generating regular cash flow projections, managing accounts, budgeting, forecasting, setting profit targets, distributing management data to various departments, coordinating with external accountants and banks. Additionally, you'll handle R&D tax credit claims, all HMRC filings, team supervision, administration of EV schemes and corporate credit cards, and addressing any finance-related inquiries on behalf of the company.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Scrutinise general ledgers to ensure accuracy and completeness of entries.
2. Supervise weekly cash flow management and generate rolling forecasts.
3. Compile monthly management accounts along with accompanying schedules.
4. Supervise monthly payroll processes.
5. Review and supervise payments to creditors.
6. Complete various statutory returns including those for Companies House, VAT, corporation tax, CT61s, PSA returns, P11Ds, P46 cars, and ERS returns.
7. Offer in-depth, high-quality analysis to facilitate informed business decisions.
8. Identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
9. Collaborate with company bankers, aiding with any funding needs.
10. Manage company credit cards and oversee the administration of the scheme.
11. Coordinate with external accountants, preparing working papers for their use.
12. Actively establish and oversee effective financial processes.
13. Collaborate with directors regularly to establish, monitor, and adjust monthly and yearly budgets and fee targets.
14. Direct and mentor the finance team's activities.
Your profile:
15. CA, CIMA or ACCA qualified
16. 5-10 years' PQE in a similar working environment
17. Sound IT skills and experience of finance and project costing software
18. Possess a working knowledge of VAT and PAYE
19. Experience of liaising with directors/senior managers
