Technical Data Manager, Upstream

About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Upstream Technical Data Manager to join our team in Aberdeen. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing our technical data systems, ensuring data integrity, security, compliance and accessibility to support exploration, development, production, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Management: Oversee the collection, storage, and maintenance of technical data, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Responsible for data loading and retrieval of key subsurface and other technical function data types including seismic, well and production data and understanding of the technical data lifecycle.
2. Data Governance: Develop and enforce data management policies and fit for purpose procedures to ensure data quality and compliance with industry standards.
3. Regulatory: Experience as an Information and Samples Coordinator (ISC) and data obligations to the NSTA and use of its portals e.g. WONS, WIOS, NDR and compiling information and samples plans (ISPs).
4. Data Access: Promote quick and easy access to trusted technical data by creating and maintaining key data access portals such as technical reference projects.
5. Library Management: Coordination of access to library subscription services, source papers and books as well as internal resources e.g. Sharepoint. Ensure easy integration of resources into existing workflows and document management systems (e.g. Assai).
6. Data Migration and Documentation Management: Ensure orderly growth by close management of the integration of new datasets and libraries into the existing Prax Upstream storage and inventory systems.
7. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, geoscience, and IT, to understand data needs and provide solutions including but not limited to cross platform data transfers and data reformatting. Management of data obligations with JV Partners.
8. Managing Third Parties: Managing rock and fluid sample datasets with external storage contractors.
9. System Optimization: Continuously improve data management systems and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness by maintaining and promoting awareness of industry best practice and emerging technologies.
10. Training and Support: Provide training and support to staff on data management best practices and tools.
11. Commitment to SHEQ: Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Prax Upstream’s Business Management and Environmental Management Systems.
12. Reporting: Generate regular reports on data management activities and performance metrics.
Qualifications:
* Education: A degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Information Technology, Engineering, or Geoscience.
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical data management, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
Skills and Competencies:
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in data management software and tools (e.g., SQL, Python, data visualization tools, Assai). Familiar with industry standard upstream workflows and interpretation software such as Petrel. Experience using the NSTA NDR.
* Technical Awareness: Awareness of the requirements of subsurface disciplines and familiarity with standard subsurface data formats (e.g., SEG-Y, LAS, DLIS). Awareness of the interfaces between technical functions. Awareness of NSTA regulatory requirements including the role of Information and Samples Coordinator (ISC).
* Geographical Information Systems: Alert to the importance of Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) and how to effectively convert data between different CRS. Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., QGIS/ARC) would be desirable.
* Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
* Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing data.
* Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various departments.
