A Finance Assistant is required to be responsible for providing financial administrative support in the provision of accurate, timely and appropriate accounting records and management information. Provide correct and consistent financial advice/guidance across the Force. Key Responsibilities: Responsible for keeping up to date and maintaining accurate and timely accounting records in accordance with legislation, accounting standards, and force and data retention regulations. Ensure financial records are maintained to align with audit requirements. Accurate and timely update of financial systems used to manage the Force’s circa £530m revenue budget and £35m capital budget. Complete any routine administrative functions (including review of requisitions / ECRISs/ raising SSAMI request to invoice customers/accounting for income received) within the department. Manage Outlook and SSAMi inboxes, deal with the queries and provide guidance as appropriate. Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Force’s intranet page. Enable informed decision-making by analysing, collating, extracting, reconciling and manipulating financial data. Ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation and resolution of control accounts to ensure effective stewardship of public funds. Undertake initial investigations into financial processes and financial data, raising issues and concerns to aid the internal audit process. Own and undertake specific tasks in accordance to the agreed statutory year end timetable. Provide financial administrative advice to other members of the Force ensuring adherence to financial regulations. Key requirements: Attained AAT level 2 or equivalent qualification or willing to work towards achieving. Good standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9-4/A-C, including maths or equivalent qualifications. Applicants who do not have the required GCSEs but possess relevant qualifications and/or experience will be considered on an individual basis. Recent experience of working in a financial or administration environment including the provision of accurate, timely and appropriate accounting records. Experience of working in a large organisation and knowledge of the public sector would be an advantage. Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Skilled in using Microsoft Excel for financial data analysis and reporting. Ability to maintain and manage financial records.
