Salary: £14.50 per hour
Ventnor Medical Practice are looking for a Pharmacy Technician who will work directly for the Practice within a broad team of professionals.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is a Pharmacy Technician and is an integral part of the general practice team, working within their professional boundaries.
This role will work under the supervision of the Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
They will provide technical and administrative support to the clinicians.
The Pharmacy Technician will support the organisations clinical teams with queries regarding medication from patients.
The Pharmacy Technician will complete audits regarding patient safety in the prescribing of medication and present the information for sharing with the clinical team.
Job responsibilities
1. Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
2. Conduct medicine optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g., checking inhaler technique), support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
3. Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients and synchronise medicines for patient transfers between care settings.
4. Provide specialist expertise to address public health and social care needs of patients including lifestyle advice and service information.
5. Maintain a central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols and liaise with specialist pharmacists for complex patients.
6. Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
7. Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
8. Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
9. Attend a formal appraisal with your manager at least every 12 months.
10. Contribute to public health campaigns through advice or direct care.
11. To always maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area.
Technical and Administrative:
1. Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation.
2. Assist practice reception teams in sorting and streaming general prescription requests.
3. Provide support for medicines optimisation systems.
4. Provide training and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines.
5. Develop relationships with other Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
6. Support the delivery of QOF, incentive schemes, QIPP and other quality or cost effectiveness initiatives.
7. Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role.
8. Duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician
* Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway.
Experience
* Is working under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines
Skills
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively.
* Knowledge of IT systems, including the ability to use word processing skills.
* Good personal organisational skills.
* Effective time management.
* Demonstrate personal accountability and emotional resilience.
Other requirements
* Flexibility to work outside of core office hours.
* Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
* Access to own transport and ability to travel across the locality.
