Job Title: School Caretaker

Reports To: School Premises Manager
Job Purpose:
The School Caretaker is responsible for the maintenance, security, and cleanliness of the school premises. This role ensures the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Premises Maintenance & Repairs:
* Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, painting, carpentry).
* Report and coordinate larger maintenance tasks with external contractors.
* Ensure heating, lighting, and ventilation systems are functioning properly.
* Perform regular inspections of the school premises to identify any issues.
2. Security & Safety:
* Open and close the school premises, including setting and disarming alarms.
* Monitor and ensure the security of the school buildings and grounds.
* Respond to emergencies, such as break-ins, fire alarms, or leaks.
* Conduct routine checks on fire safety equipment and report any concerns.
3. Cleaning & Waste Management:
* Ensure the school is kept clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times.
* Oversee cleaning staff and provide support when necessary.
* Empty bins and manage waste disposal, including recycling procedures.
4. Grounds & Facilities Management:
* Ensure playgrounds, paths, and external areas are safe and well-maintained.
* Carry out seasonal duties, such as clearing snow or fallen leaves.
* Maintain and inspect school furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
5. Health & Safety Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
* Carry out risk assessments and routine safety checks.
* Keep records of maintenance work and report any hazards.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or maintenance (preferred).
* Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general DIY repairs.
* Strong awareness of health and safety regulations.
* Ability to work independently and use initiative.
* Good communication and organizational skills.
* Willingness to work flexible hours when needed (e.g., school events, emergencies).
