North Yorkshire Council has a national reputation for excellence and was recently deemed consistently Outstanding in their recent OFSTED inspection within Children’s Services. We are looking for Social Workers across our Looked After Children Team. We also welcome those who are looking to relocate.
About the role
Our team works with children and young people who are cared for by the Local Authority who are ‘Looked After’ or those who are placed with their family and supported under a Child in Need basis who may have been subject to court proceedings which have concluded. Our Looked After Children’s team also undertakes court proceedings, picking these up from the Family Assessment and Support Team (FAST) from the second court hearing. This means we cover all aspects of the court process; a good understanding of this or a willingness to learn is vital.
We have high aspirations for our young people and always strive to work collaboratively with families and young people, working strongly with the belief that each child and young person has a network around them which is essential to work alongside and tap into. We have a high investment in training for our Social Workers including family network and practice models and approaches to support good Social Work practice. This includes specific practice model training which covers systemic, signs of safety, restorative, and family networking approaches.
The role is very varied; no two days look the same for workers. One day you may be completing words and pictures with a family or the next supporting a young person with pathway planning to independence. We work with all young people from birth up to the age of 18, having strong links with other agencies externally and with teams in North Yorkshire.
The team consists of a Team Manager and Practice Supervisors to support all our Social Workers in the team. The team has dedicated business support to enable Social Workers to spend more time with Children, Young People, and their families. We have a well-defined supervision policy which includes regular group supervisions, individual supervisions, and opportunities to participate in County Wide practice model sessions, and engage in appreciative inquiry and conversation cafés about practice with our Principal Social Worker.
The team is creative in the ways we work with families, and no two plans look the same. The Social Workers are supported by new technology and a dedicated business support team, which means that time is freed up to spend it away from the computer and with young people. The team has an easily accessible office base with ample free parking where they work closely alongside our partners such as the fostering, health, and leaving care teams. There are plenty of local amenities nearby and is also close to Knaresborough rail station.
About you
We are looking for Social Workers with a ‘can do’ attitude who are child-focused, like to think outside of the box, and are creative in their planning with children. It doesn’t matter whether you are starting out in your social work career, returning to practice, or an experienced worker looking for a new challenge either in a different field or new authority.
Be the change you trained to be.
