They will independently provide specialist nursing care for all elective Cardiology patients. The post holder will demonstrate advanced clinical assessment skills to ensure patients are suitable to undergo all interventional Cardiology procedures.
They will manage their own caseload and take direct referrals from Consultant Cardiologists. The post holder will be responsible for a defined patient caseload in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team promoting attitudes and standards of professional practice which reflect the organisations commitment to providing timely and high-quality services and care to the community it serves.
The Specialist Nurse will manage and maintain patient flow; liaising with the medical team, Cardiology Day Ward and wider Cardiology to ensure optimised patient care for a range of procedures.
· Adhere to guidelines set out by the NMC Code of Conduct.
· Provide information in a variety of forms and media to facilitate understanding and questions, which enable patients, family and carers to participate and make informed decisions about their care and treatment.
· Where appropriate advocate and put forward views and wishes on behalf of the patient.
· Provide Nurse-led services and clinics, which assist the patient’s responsible Consultant to provide prompt diagnosis, treatment and review interventions.
· Perform physical assessments of patients prior to their procedure.
· Act as a resource for specialist teaching, participate in preceptor-ship and mentoring programmes to all members of the Cardiology Team, Trust and outside agencies where appropriate and/or invited.

The post holder will manage Cardiology pre-assessment clinics Monday to Friday ensuring effective patient flow through the elective services pathway. They will be required to work within a team of Specialist Nurse Practitioners within Cardiology to deliver this service.
