What you’ll do
As Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will improve the responsiveness and proactiveness of our stakeholder engagement function to help enhance stakeholder relationships and their satisfaction with Southeastern.
The Stakeholder Engagement Manager represents Southeastern with external stakeholders and will attend meetings with key stakeholders and support the delivery of the stakeholder engagement strategy.
You will take ownership of stakeholder enquiries and complaints, including constituency-based casework, and provide timely, high-quality, and consistent responses.
A core part of the role will be to provide support to the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager and wider team, including briefings and research, and assisting with event organisation.
The ideal candidate will also work with the wider Communications Team to help provide proactive stakeholder communications on key developments on the Southeastern network.
Main Responsibilities
You will have multiple key responsibilities in this role that will include but not be limited to:
1. Supporting the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager with day-to-day stakeholder enquiries, drafting and facilitating responses on behalf of Southeastern.
2. Being responsible for reactive correspondence to stakeholder inquiries, liaising with internal colleagues including the Department for Transport in the management of stakeholder correspondence, and managing stakeholder databases.
3. Providing proactive corporate updates to stakeholders, including writing and publishing stakeholder newsletters and other material.
4. Attending stakeholder meetings as a representative of Southeastern as required (includes evening meetings).
5. Running Southeastern’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund – liaising with the organisations we are funding along with SE colleagues that are helping to monitor each project.
6. Drafting and compiling internal briefings for members of the Executive ahead of stakeholder meetings.
7. Providing political monitoring and intelligence of a high quality to the Executive on issues of interest to the business, to maintain and enhance corporate reputation.
8. Supporting the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager with the organisation of events, including two Stakeholder Forums and two MP drop-ins each year, including management of logistics and the provision of written briefs, speaking notes, and presentations for the Southeastern Executive.
9. Supporting the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager with research, briefings, and presentations for internal and external use. This includes lessons learned papers following events.
10. Providing data and insight from the stakeholder database for monthly reports and other papers as well as using mapping software tools to produce constituency-based maps.
11. Deputising for the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager as and when required.
12. Working with Communications colleagues to deliver a 24-hour on-call service for media and stakeholders such as Members of Parliament and Government departments and providing communications advice and support to operational colleagues as well as any other duties that may be required.
The experience you’ll need
1. Experience in public affairs, government relations, communications, or an equivalent role.
2. Experience in dealing with stakeholder correspondence and handling sensitive political information.
3. Experience with public speaking and representing a company with external stakeholders.
4. Experience of working with local communities and representatives to address issues and achieve a positive outcome.
5. Proven ability to present complex material in a simple, understandable way.
6. Experience of planning and delivering events.
7. Excellent communication and people skills.
8. Good political judgement and intuition.
9. Railway knowledge would be desirable.

Salary £40,000 - £42,000 per annum depending on experience plus free travel.
