SUMMER Sailing Instructors & Head Coach

Plymouth Yacht Club is currently hiring both Sailing Instructors and a 420 Head Coach to join our experienced, 12-person instructor team from June 16- Aug 17th. 420 Coach wage rate is from $22-$25 based on experience.
The Program owns a fleet of 40+ sailboats and 7 coach boats, and operates off of the PYC docks. Our classes take place in the Junior Program boathouse in TV & WiFi enabled spaces using the latest US Sailing curriculum videos and lessons. The program enrolls 170+ sailors over an 8-week period, teaching all levels and ages. Our emphasis is on seamanship, safety, skill progression and FUN as our sailors choose their path forward into racing or cruising. Our instructors are treated as experienced professionals and receive excellent benefits.
You can expect flexible hours, commuting incentives and excellent pay rates. 420 Coach hourly rates range from $22-$25 based on experience. Sailing instructor hourly rates range from $17/hr for 1st year to $21/hr for those with over 2 years of experience. If qualified, flat-rate per-lesson pay is also available for teaching Adult Lessons in our Adult Sailing program.

SAILING INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Pay range $17-21/hr
- Provide sailing instruction and mentoring of students.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including enforcing safety rules.
- Maintain and care for all sailing equipment, coach boats and program facilities.
- Properly rig and de-rig equipment, and follow reporting procedures for all issues.
- Act as a role-model for assistant coaches, promoting professionalism.
- Report to Program Director for job responsibilities; Club Manager for employee issues.
420 HEAD COACH RESPONSIBILITIES: Pay range $22-$25/hr
- Responsible for the instruction and race coordination of the Club’s 420 Race Team, including coordinating “Away” regattas with our Race Team.
- Instruction and mentoring of our 420 students, including travel to 4 in-season regattas.
- Lead and supervise on-water activities, drills, and races.
- Development of course lesson plans, incorporating our specific teaching equipment.
- Decision-making on daily curriculum & drills and class activities.
- Provide constructive feedback, support and take initiative to improve the performance program, sailors and co-workers.
- Act as a role-model for assistant coaches, promoting professionalism.
- Help maintain equipment and record-keeping for students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Coaches & Instructors must hold a valid US Sailing Level 1 or higher, plus NASBLA and SafeSport certification. Familiarity with the boats in our fleet: Power: 18’ Brigs, 18’ Boston Whalers. Sail: Prams, Optis, Club 420s & RS Quests. Additional factors that can increase pay rate:
- The number of years you have coached / taught.
- Strong and demonstrated dinghy racing experience, particularly in Club 420’s.
- Current or former collegiate sailing and/or high school racing.
