Job Description

This post is based within the Advice Shop where the successful candidate will work to promote financial inclusion and alleviate poverty through advice and advocacy in the areas of welfare benefits/appeals, money/budgeting, housing, and energy advice.
With a focus on supporting families facing multiple barriers including health inequalities, the post holder will work with a range of partners, including local schools and other education settings, to offer targeted support to families and young people who are affected by poverty or financial insecurity through holistic advice and support to maximise income and promote financial wellbeing.
Working at a local level with an aim of reducing and mitigating child poverty, the successful candidate will help to drive change in local communities by working closely with key partners to deliver poverty awareness training; organise information events; deliver talks & presentations to relevant groups and local organisations; and to ensure advice and support is provided to families at highest risk of experiencing poverty.
The post holder should also have a high level of research and analytical skills and be able to apply findings to offer practical solutions. Experience in providing advice in the areas of money/debt, benefits, energy, or housing advice is essential. Experience in organising events and delivering training is desirable.
This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
