Job Title: Design Manager
Location: South West, UK (Hybrid Working Available)
About the Role:
We are seeking a talented Design Manager to join our Engineering team within a key water framework in the South West. This role offers hybrid working and will report directly to the Head of Engineering. The successful candidate will lead projects through their design phases, ensuring that cost-effective, technically compliant, and buildable solutions are delivered in line with stakeholder requirements, programme expectations, and established engineering design procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Champion excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, ensuring full compliance with relevant local specifications, codes, regulations, and H&S legislation.
Identify and manage H&S hazards, effectively communicating all residual risks to stakeholders.
Lead the Design team to ensure a focused approach that meets customer requirements and project objectives.
Manage design expenditure, drive efficiency, and ensure the delivery of design outputs within allocated resource hours and key dates.
Organize all elements of design, document it in the Design Management Plan, and prepare monthly status update reports as required.
Attend and contribute to all relevant programme, project, and technical meetings.
Ensure that technical solutions are produced to outperform on costs while maintaining quality standards and timely delivery.
Provide technical support during construction, assembly, and commissioning stages as needed.
Ensure that all technical work adheres to the correct standards and specifications, following appropriate systems of work and quality assurance.
Contribute to sustainability targets by reducing embodied and operational Carbon Footprints of solutions.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with people from various partner organizations, backgrounds, and disciplines.
Provide exceptional customer service to internal teams, partners, the client, and the general public.
Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, offering open and honest feedback.
Perform other duties, training, and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and consistent with the level of responsibility for this role.

About You:
Essential:
Extensive experience in multi-disciplinary design management within a design-build environment.
Degree in an engineering-related discipline.
Chartered Engineer in an engineering-related discipline.
APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.
Delivery-driven with the ability to set targets and manage multi-disciplinary teams to achieve time, cost, and quality objectives.
Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
Extensive experience in large-scale project delivery.
Strong strategic, operational, technical, and management skills.
Good general knowledge of water treatment processes, civil and MEICA engineering aspects.
Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
Desirable:
Working towards or having obtained the APM Project Management Qualification.
Experience working in a global organization.
Experience working with remote or dispersed teams.
Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
