Mechanical Design Engineer Coventry based with hybrid working available 6-12 Month contract with scope for extension Inside IR35 Morson are currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for an ongoing contract based in Coventry. This role will be an integral part of our clients new _plug and play_ programme and will be responsible for creating innovative designs for mechanical design & specifications from the concept and optioneering stage through to the outline and detailed design stage. In order to succeed in this role it is expected that you will be able to: Engage with multiple stakeholders (internal / external) to understand the root cause of the business problem that the standard design is aiming to address Agree product design assessment and design completion milestones with Project Manager High level appraisal and feasibility of conceptual designs to create innovative and efficient plug and play solutions which resolve the business problem (liaising with appropriate internal and external experts, ensuring design standards and assurance processes are followed) Undertake the role of Principal Designer (discharge duties as a client in accordance with CDM regs) Act as EA liaison throughout feasibility and feedback any key learning points to the team and into future designs Understand and review potential delivery and operational risks e.g. H&S, environmental, commissioning Contribute to the early development of commissioning plans Determine the appropriate product solution (and costing, liaising with commercial), providing input to relevant papers, governance forums and Community of Practices Ensuring that appropriate expert mechanical advice is provided to the project team so that the standard solution has an effective handshake between Severn Trent Product Team and Site Design Teams to enable proper installation of products on site Ensure the standard plug and play solution is reviewed, benefit appraised, risks and learnings are captured and the design is continually improved Coach and develop the team to build capability In order to succeed in this role it is expected that you will have: Water or Waste Water sector experience or similar (Petrochem / Pharmaceutical / Food / Aerospace / Power / Automotive) Experience of mechanical design Experience of undertaking the role of Principal Designer Extensive experience of providing designs and specifications for commercial negotiations Proven innovation of design to assist with the development of innovative solutions in the delivery of projects. Experience of using CAD and digital tools Experience of managing a product life cycle Evidence of coaching skills and building capability within the Design team Extensive experience of implementing CDM regulations in design process Extensive experience of working closely with supply chain in delivering projects (with emphasis on adherence to CDM design specification, H&S, outputs, and quality). Demonstrated experience of the considerations given to risk management in construction and operational design. Evidence of influencing key stakeholders to achieve pragmatic solutions
