Big Data Analytics, Developing and Mainstreaming Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
The COGSTACK system was developed at KCH as part of the requirements for identifying eligible patients for the 100,000 Genomes Project.
The platform has been operating for over five years and has allowed us to search for patients meeting specific phenotypes using modern ‘Google’ style tools and to infer coded information (SnomedCT/UMLS) from unstructured documents using state of the art Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools.
As part of the Genomics AI Network (GAIN), we are recruiting an AI/NLP developer to take leadership in the development of the next generation of applications that make use of the CogStack data platform. Leveraging the capabilities of NLP within CogStack and integration with genetic data creates unique opportunities in the diagnosis of rare inheritable diseases.
You will be joining a small team of world-class bio-/health-informaticians, data scientists, and AI/NLP developers working at the forefront of developing artificial intelligence systems for healthcare applications.
Translating current research into proof of concept applications under the existing governance arrangements will be a major part of the role. This will involve developing and evaluating new tools to help researchers and clinicians extract added value from the health record. These tools will include NLP and other AI aspects such as the development of predictive algorithms using Machine Learning techniques.
Main duties of the job
The proposal is to develop a registry, designed specifically for CLL patients, that can be used to evaluate the infection risk faced by these patients as they progress through the different stages of the disease. This registry will also serve as a valuable resource for auditing, service evaluation, patient safety, and also help identify patients for clinical trials and research.
This role will be responsible for supporting and further developing the clinical analytics platform, the main data backend infrastructure. Further responsibilities include contributions to quality management, ensuring compliance with national standards and regulations and helping shape data governance processes for the use of automatically extracted phenotypes in the clinic and for research.
This is an opportunity to develop the next generation of machine learning analytical tools that utilize a vast and unique genomic and clinical data collection to make personalized medicine a reality. A successful proof-of-concept will open further opportunities in the mainstreaming of AI applications and further develop its prospective role in the clinic.
