Legal Counsel (In-House)
Energy firm
£70K-£75K base + £6K car allowance
Leeds (or London) depending on your preference
Hybrid working ( 1 day per week in the office)
The duties
1. Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
2. Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties including development, construction, O&M, financing, offtake, joint venture and SaaS agreements for a wide range of projects
3. Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters.
4. Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and group level.
5. Working closely with colleagues throughout the group and with customers.
6. Managing external legal resource as required.
7. Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.
The requirements
8. UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister Experience in both private practice and in-house roles preferred but not essential
9. Understanding of the contractual framework surrounding energy projects in particular renewables within the UK energy market.
10. Experience of energy projects preferred. Experience in or familiarity with hydrogen projects would be useful.
11. Experience of or a keen interest in new and evolving technologies and digital transformation.
12. Experience of negotiating bespoke construction and O&M agreements and also agreements based on industry standard forms in particular the JCT suite of contracts, NEC, FIDIC and IChemE.
