Job Description
Established in 2022, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) is a fast-growing business within the Aston Martin Racing Performance Group. Our vision is to deploy our F1 knowledge and technical expertise to deliver high-performance engineering projects outside of Formula One.
AMPT has already established its position as a technological trend-setter - from producing highly successful automotive composite Body in White programmes to heading global motorsport programmes. As our programme portfolio develops, we are looking for a range of driven, world-class engineers to join us on this exciting journey.
AMPT is based in Silverstone, amidst the widely renowned Aston Martin Racing Technology Campus. With the iconic circuit on one side and rural countryside on the other, the new Campus symbolises our core values: innate competitive desire and a drive for sustainable efficiency, in an environment conceived to nurture innovative and creative thinking.
We have a new opportunity to be part of the Aston Martin Performance Technologies team in the role of Junior Structures Engineer.
Reporting to the Structural Engineering Leader, the Junior Structures Engineer will perform calculations to assess the structural performance of components and assemblies, using both traditional hand calculations and commercial CAE software. You’ll work on a range of internal and external (non-F1) customer projects, collaborating across functions to develop innovative engineering solutions that offer competitive advantage.
This role also includes representing AMPT with external stakeholders including customers, R&D partners, institutions, and suppliers — setting the highest technical and personal standards.
You will be responsible for:
* Performing a wide range of structural and thermal calculations using traditional methods and commercial CAE software.
* Identifying and interpreting mechanical load requirements and applying engineering analysis to produce design recommendations.
* Managing your own tasks and projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
* Communicating effectively with all project stakeholders to support collaborative success.
* Contributing to new business opportunities and representing AMPT externally as needed.
* Supporting continuous improvement across AMPT’s tools, methods, people, and culture.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
* BEng / BSc or above in Mechanical, Automotive, Motorsport, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
* A good amount of experience performing CAE calculations in Automotive, Motorsport, Aerospace or Academia.
* Proficiency in Structural Finite Element Analysis, with experience in commercial CAE solvers (e.g. Abaqus, Optistruct, LS-Dyna) and CAE pre/post processing tools (e.g. ANSA, Hypermesh, Abaqus CAE).
* Experience with 2D and 3D design using CAD software such as Catia (3Dx), Siemens NX, or similar.
* Solid understanding of materials and their behaviour, particularly composites.
* Competency in structural analysis via traditional hand calculations and first principles.
* Strong IT skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Passion for innovation and learning, with a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
* Willingness to travel as required to fulfil role responsibilities.
* High levels of motivation, reliability, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
* Flexible, team-oriented, and results-driven with sound decision-making skills.
* Committed to Health & Safety and contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture.
This is a full-time office-based role based at our campus in Silverstone, with additional requirement to travel to other locations where necessary.
