Mission of the position
The Testing Engineer will have responsibility for testing trains and resolving any engineering issues that may arise during the test programme of the project. This will involve communicating with the UK and headquarters to fully understand the procedures. They will be responsible for the analysis of testing data, compiling data and presenting findings to key stakeholders and colleagues. In addition, the person in the role will lead a team of Testing and Commissioning Technicians. The role will require frequent travel around the UK to perform testing required by both CAF and clients.
The Testing Engineer role will be permanently based at our Newport facility. The initial first 12 months the role will be based in HQ Zaragoza, Spain. CAF are able to sponsor the successful candidate with a visa and cover accommodation costs whilst in Spain. On returning back from Spain no accommodation is provided.
Functions and responsibilities
1. Preparation of reports.
2. Management and planning of tests and resources to achieve the established objectives. In quality, time and cost.
3. Presentation of tests and results to the Client.
4. Develop test procedures and method statements to support the test programme.
5. Manage and oversee the electrical & mechanical systems installation, integrity, maintenance and fault rectification of the train borne test equipment and manage the testing contractors as necessary in accordance with procedures.
6. Ensure measurement systems are documented and maintained in accordance with procedures.
7. Carry out Testing duties, including maintaining testing logs and documents and controlling test data in accordance with relevant procedures.
8. Analyse test data and reporting test results to relevant stakeholders.
9. Liaise with relevant systems experts in Engineering to progress commissioning and type testing issues. Lead a team of Testing Technicians
Training required
Required professional experience
Experience in a similar role within Manufacturing Electronics, Mechatronics, Electricity, Telecommunications Engineering or similar.
Experience in setting up or maintaining industrial, aeronautical, renewable, automotive and, of course, railway machinery is essential
Knowledge & experience in Industrial cold Diesel engines, Pneumatic and hydraulic power electronics, Computer Networks, Automatons and distributed input / output systems, Programming: NET and Labview, Use of measuring instruments such as oscilloscopes, recorders, etc.
Knowledge in measurement instrumentation, analysis and interpretation of physical data and diagnostic software is valued
Technical and/or practical knowledge valued
Digital systems, electrical circuit design and programming
Database management of both registration and information in the cloud
Flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances, and provide solutions in a climate of continuous improvement.
