Pay Rate: £12.00 per hour plus 5.6 weeks AL Pro Rata
Job Description:
Are you a genuinely caring, reliable, outgoing person with the ability to be friendly and supportive? This post is for a personal assistant and companion to work closely with a confident, friendly woman in her fifties. She is diabetic and a double amputee, she mobilises with the use of a wheelchair and she is partially sighted.
The support will be mainly at her home but occasionally in the community, helping to improve her sense of well-being. You will liaise closely with her family to identify her needs.
Your role is to provide support socially, with personal care, preparing lunch and all activities of daily living as required. The person enjoys being read to, going for drives, listening to music, going for coffee, lunch, and shopping.
Responsibilities:
• Volunteer to help the person with tasks she finds difficult due to her disability.
• Encourage the person to maintain physical fitness.
• Treat the person with dignity and respect.
• Support the person to get out of the house and develop hobbies of her choosing.
• Listen to the person and adapt your support as required, being aware of any worsening symptoms and reporting concerns.
• Always be patient and kind.
• Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and maintain good standards of cleanliness.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect for the family’s privacy and daily routine.
You will be required to work on a flexible basis including evenings and weekends. A positive, open-minded, flexible, and friendly personality is essential. This post is subject to successful reference and PVG checks.
Education and Qualifications:
SVQ/NVQ level two or equivalent in social care is desirable. A Certificate in Moving and Assisting People is essential. The employer will provide this training if you don’t have it in place. It is your duty to attend the organised training session with a training provider.
Two up-to-date reference contacts are required, one of which must be from a present or previous employer. A new PVG enhanced disclosure will be required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer).
There is a probationary period of 6 months for this post. During this period, either party can end the employment by giving one week's notice.
