Controls Engineer - Robotics
As part of their ongoing success in delivering new and exciting projects, the company is looking for a skilled Controls Engineer with experience in integrating and programming industrial robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Fanuc robots, including commissioning, writing TP & Karel programs, and using them to tackle complex industrial challenges.
The company’s product range is diverse, from simple machines processing dedicated tasks to complex, customizable cells with multiple robots, production steps, and integrated technologies, including cameras, lasers, waterjet cutters, and even chainsaws. Each component must work seamlessly together to deliver an effective solution.
In this role, the Controls Engineer will develop software and work across a wide variety of industrial robotic and control platforms, such as Fanuc and Kuka robots, Beckhoff and Siemens PLCs, and other devices with their unique environments and languages. You will be responsible for commissioning new equipment, following detailed user manuals, and troubleshooting common electrical issues.

They will be self-driven, constantly learning new technologies, and have a flair for getting things to work.
This role is hybrid, with regular travel to offices in Bristol and Dorchester. As the role may involve client site visits across various sectors, including defense, the candidate must be a British citizen and capable of obtaining security clearance up to Developed Vetting level.
Essential skills and experience
* 3+ years of advanced experience programming Fanuc robots
* STEM degree, preferably in engineering
* Experience using Roboguide
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, at a high technical level in English
* Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new technologies
* Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
* Competence in diagnosing common electrical issues
* Willingness and ability to travel
Desirable skills and experience
* Experience commissioning and programming Siemens S7 PLCs and TIA Portal
* PLC programming in IEC (phone number removed) languages (ST essential)
* Motion control experience, including VFD setup and drive tuning
* Functional Safety (designing, programming, and validating)
* Familiarity with other industrial automation devices
