Begin your journey into the art and design industry. Explore experimental and creative methods in fine art, 3D sculpture, and digital skills. Grow your skills and develop creative practical knowledge and ideas to create art and design outcomes for projects set by Tutors and external clients, giving you real-world experience. Themes are current and engaging on the projects, building upon life skills and work experiences. The course will also involve working on self-initiated projects across a range of disciplines, enabling you to develop your strengths within all subject areas. Assessment is via coursework and practical assessment throughout the academic year. The course is about building strengths and confidence enabling progression on to a Level 2 creative course.

Entry Requirements
Two GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and Mathematics or a relevant Entry Level qualification. You will also need a portfolio of work to present at interview.

Assessment
This course explores experimental and creative methods within 2D and 3D communication. These acquired skills help to develop practical knowledge and ideas to create art and design outcomes in response to set projects. Assessment is via coursework and practical assessments. The ethos of the course is to extend and explore creative opportunities within the Creative Arts and Media, a vocationally related qualification where learners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. Whilst increasing your existing skills, extending your creative applications, and building confidence within your creative journey whilst studying at Burnley College.
On successful completion of this course, you may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design or Level 2 Diploma in Games Art and Design.
Equipment Needed
You will need a sketchbook and some art materials to allow you to work independently. An equipment list will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Equipment Supplied
Our open plan studios provide a contemporary, industry-focused working environment. You will have access to suites of iMacs, Photographic Studio, and Dark Room, as well as Specialist 3D, Textile, and Print-Making materials and equipment.
You will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities to enhance your studies, including visits to art exhibitions at national and international venues, participating in the College Creative Arts and Media Showcase, and taking part in art & design activities to contribute to your community.
