Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner
The Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an experienced Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner. Are you an experienced nurse looking to enhance your skills within this exciting specialty? If so, we would like to hear from you.
You will work alongside the existing Major Trauma Nurse Practitioners coordinating the care of the Major Trauma patients through the accident and emergency department. A minimum of 12 months experience is essential to this role.
Main Duties of the Job
As a Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner, you will:
* Coordinate the care of all major trauma patients through the accident and emergency department.
* Work as part of a large multidisciplinary team involved in the care of Major Trauma patients.
* Use advanced clinical, analytical, and decision-making skills to assess the needs of patients from admission to rehabilitation and discharge.
* Ensure continuity of care for patients and their families, providing expert advice on Major Trauma Care.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure all trauma patients are appropriately assessed, investigations ordered, and treatment commenced in line with protocols, policies, and procedures.
* Lead the daily major trauma ward round and completion of tertiary surveys.
* Liaise with regional trauma units to ensure effective patient flow.
* Act as senior nurse for trauma team calls when on duty.
* Provide clinical expertise and specialist advice within this area of practice.
* Assist in the clinical development of the trauma service using evidence-based practice.
* Alert management regarding operational issues in a timely manner.
* Ensure good communications with patients, relatives, and carers.
* Develop auditable standards of care and present reports as required.
* Attend and participate in key major trauma meetings.
* Support the coordination of rehabilitation pathways with therapy teams.
* Work closely with TARN Coordinators to meet trauma key performance indicators.
* Represent the major trauma centre at external events.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse, Level 1, Adult – on the live NMC register
* Advanced Practice Certification in clinical examination and diagnostics (M Level)
* TNCC or equivalent
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent
Experience
* Significant clinical experience of working with trauma patients
* Experience in training junior staff
* Proven experience in leading and managing staff
* Evidence of prior working as an autonomous practitioner
* Significant experience working at a Band 6 level
* Experience of developing care pathways
* Experience of teaching others in both informal and formal settings
Knowledge
* Knowledge of current professional issues
* Working knowledge of clinical audit principles
* Knowledge of trauma networks
* Knowledge of TARN
