Our Client is a leading packager of MAN engine-based Combined Heat & Power (CHP) systems, providing energy-efficient solutions to industrial, commercial, and institutional customers across Northern California. Our client specializes in reciprocating engine-driven CHP systems and advanced control technologies to maximize efficiency and reliability.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled CHP Service Technician to join our team and support the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MAN engine-based CHP systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with reciprocating gas engines, electrical controls, and CHP operations. This role involves working with ComAp and EControls systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of our CHP installations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on MAN engine-based CHP systems.
* Work with engine control systems such as ComAp and EControls to diagnose, calibrate, and optimize engine and power generation performance.
* Conduct mechanical, electrical, and control system diagnostics, including sensor calibrations, wiring checks, and fuel system adjustments.
* Interface with SCADA and remote monitoring systems to assess system health and performance.
* Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals to diagnose issues and ensure proper system function.
* Perform engine overhauls, cylinder head replacements, turbocharger servicing, and other major engine repairs as needed.
* Work collaboratively with engineering teams and customers to support system upgrades and modifications.
* Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and reports using CMMS or service management software.
* Adhere to safety protocols and environmental compliance standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
* 2+ years of experience as a field service technician, preferably in CHP, cogeneration, or reciprocating engine-based power generation.
* Strong working knowledge of natural gas or biogas reciprocating engines (MAN engines preferred).
* Experience with ComAp and EControls engine management systems (or similar PLC-based control systems).
* Understanding of electrical systems, power generation, and control logic.
* Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical schematics.
* Familiarity with fuel systems, emissions control, and cooling systems in CHP applications.
* Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
* Basic proficiency in laptop-based diagnostics and software tools for control system programming.
* Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across Northern California for on-site service visits.
* Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with SCADA systems and remote monitoring platforms.
* EPA 608/609 Refrigerant Certification (a plus).
* Knowledge of biogas, landfill gas, or renewable natural gas (RNG) CHP applications.
