This role will be split between Kingston CAMHS and Richmond CAMHS Tier 3 teams. They are multidisciplinary teams specialising in the provision of high-quality assessments and evidence-based treatments for children, young people and their families presenting to the service with moderate to severe mental health problems and/or Neuropsychiatric difficulties.
We are looking for a committed CAMHS Nurse who is passionate about working with children and young people with ADHD and interested in wider service development initiatives.
The role will be to provide a flexible, timely response to young people and their families who are accessing services for ADHD medication titration, GP Shared Care routine medication reviews, and psycho-social support for YP with ADHD and their families.
The role facilitates joint working with team consultants, non-medical prescribers and therapists from the tier 3 teams, local GP's, and partnership agencies.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high-quality specialist ADHD service to patients and their families across Kingston and Richmond. The post holder will be a prescriber for initiation, titration and ongoing management of ADHD treatment. As a band 7 ADHD Nurse the post holder will:
Support fellow non-medical prescribers and psychiatrists to deliver a highly specialist service for children and young people with ADHD and co-morbid mental health difficulties, contributing to specialist assessment & management and offering ADHD medication reviews as an independent non-medical prescriber.
Job responsibilities
Clinical/Professional
To work as an integral member of the Tier 3 CAMHS Community Team supporting the psychiatrists and non-medical prescribers to support young people who are prescribed medication for ADHD.
To work as an independent and autonomous professional within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work.
Maintain relevant and pharmaceutical knowledge, critically appraise and apply information in practice.
Prescribe safely and effectively, acknowledging own limitations and scope of practice.
Work within Trust policies that impact upon prescribing practice.
To function as care coordinator to a caseload of young people with a diagnosis of ADHD and other co-occurring conditions assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating their care needs.
To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with young people and their families/carers.
To provide routine ADHD medication reviews in clinic.
To provide physical health checks including height, weight, blood pressure and pulse for children taking medication for ADHD.
The post holder will ensure that the policy and legislation relating to child protection and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults are adhered to. It is the responsibility of all staff to report any concerns to the identified person within your department/division or area of responsibility.
To consult with the young persons professional network, keeping them informed of developments and promoting multi agency collaboration. Liaison with Childrens Specialist Services, Educational services, independent sector mental health providers, counsellors and any other professional related to the childcare.
To involve the young person, and where appropriate, their families/carers in delivering programmes of care.
To play an active role in promoting mental health and well-being in young people and their families/carers.
To participate in the prevention and early detection of emotional and mental health difficulties in children and adolescents seen for ADHD medication reviews and refer or signpost to appropriate services.
Offer psychoeducation about ADHD, diet, sleep hygiene and resources in the community during ADHD reviews and refer to other services as appropriate.
To attend and actively participate in clinical meetings as part of the multidisciplinary team such as referrals meetings, case conferences, care reviews, network meetings.
Access regular clinical supervision from a named supervisor.
Provide clinical supervision, where appropriate for colleagues and students. To maintain clinical records in accordance with the NMC standards for record keeping and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
To be aware of the statutory requirements of both the Children Act and Mental Health Act and use these to inform good nursing practice.
To undertake routine outcome measures to monitor the quality of care provided, in keeping with the national CYPIAPT framework.
To record information on IAPTUS, ensuring effective documentation of patient care is consistent with Trust standards.
To implement and contribute to policy and service development as appropriate.
To ensure that work is in keeping with both the Service and Trust policies and protocols.
To collect and process relevant statistical data as required by the service.
Person Specification
Experience
* A minimum of 2 years working at a Band 6 or 7 level in a child and young people setting
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working with children and young people in a community setting
* Experience of working with children and young people with ADHD
* Evidence of extensive post registration learning & development.
* Previous experience in clinical leadership and delivering clinical supervision.
Training & Qualifications
* RMN or RCN (current NMC registration)
* Non-medical prescriber with appropriate NMC registration
* ENB 998 or equivalent
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Additional specialist training specific to adolescent mental health
Knowledge & Skills
* Specialist clinical knowledge relevant to the service, including evidence-based practice.
* Skills of working with children, young people, and families with specific mental health/ developmental difficulties
* Have knowledge of ADHD and its management
* Clinical/risk assessment and care/treatment planning
* Working knowledge of all relevant legislation related to CAMHS ability to assess risk, and manage suicidal, violent, and challenging behaviour in a hospital setting
* Understanding of the 1983 Mental Health Act and subsequent mental health legislation as they pertain to nurses.
* Report writing skills
* Ability to manage conflict effectively
