Waste management - Shaping a Greener, More Sustainable Future
Are you passionate about waste management and ready to lead one of the most essential services in Wiltshire?
Wiltshire Council’s Waste Services is at the heart of our Environment Directorate, delivering essential waste and recycling collection services at scale and managing the significant volumes of waste that this entails. This is a highly valued public service that directly impacts our residents, our shared environment and also shapes the council’s reputation. It’s a challenging and rewarding area that demands innovative thinking, strong leadership and a commitment to sustainability, reducing carbon emissions and managing waste in accordance with the waste hierarchy.
We're looking for an experienced Waste Treatment and Disposal Manager to take charge of several complex and high value contracts to deliver essential landfill diversion arrangements as well as services for the sorting of collected recyclables, strategic waste transfer, disposal of non-recyclable residual waste, and the public-facing Household Recycling Centre service.
Working collaboratively with your Waste Manager colleagues, you’ll actively contribute to strategically reviewing current landfill diversion and waste management contracts as part of a wider Waste Transformation Programme, and your expertise will ensure that essential service tonnage and budget forecasts are regularly refined to account for necessary service changes arising from new requirements under Environment Act 2021, and explore new and innovative solutions for Wiltshire’s waste management future.
We’re looking for someone with substantial experience in waste management, ideally backed by a relevant degree and membership of an appropriate professional body. You’ll need excellent people skills, a sharp mind for data analysis and reporting, and be experienced in the management of complex contracts, and a genuine passion for tackling environmental and contractual challenges.
