Job Summary
HOOPP's Private Investment and Infrastructure portfolios have grown to over $25 billion and include investments throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. The portfolios hold direct investments in private enterprises, as well as indirect investments through limited partnerships. The varied nature of the investment structures and geographic locations results in different reporting standards, income tax implications, and foreign exchange considerations. HOOPP will also open an office in London, UK in 2024 to drive further growth in direct private investments in Europe.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Investment Operations, the Analyst will be an integral contributor to the investment operations process for HOOPP’s private investments. The Analyst will support two Senior Analysts and the Associate Director with the investment operations of the private equity, private credit, and private venture (together referred to as “private investments”) and infrastructure portfolios for the Toronto and London offices.
NOTE: This is for a 12-month contract.
What you will do:
Investment Accounting
The focus of the Analyst role is to ensure that the operations of the private investments and infrastructure portfolios are properly and accurately reflected in the private equity sub-ledger system.
1. Assist in the set-up of investment details and recording of daily cash transactions in the sub-ledger system.
2. Ensure that acquisitions and dispositions of investments are recorded appropriately in the system.
3. Keep track of daily information received from the General Partners (“GP”), access and download the information from the GP portals and organize information in the appropriate folders to ensure completeness of information received from the GP.
4. Obtain supporting documentation from GPs, where required, to ensure distributions/contributions are accurately recorded in the sub-ledger system. Liaise with the GPs for any queries.
5. Assist the team with ad-hoc requests from Investment Management and other divisions within Finance and across the organization.
6. Prepare the daily hedge report.
7. Assist the Senior Analysts with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting and preparation of working papers for the private investments and infrastructure portfolios. The responsibilities include:
1. Booking operational activities.
2. Performing reconciliations to cash.
3. Preparing various schedules supporting the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
4. Monitoring financial statements received from General Partners.
5. Reviewing General Partners financial statements and performing analytical work regarding movement in Net Asset Value.
Compliance Monitoring
Assist the Senior Analysts with compliance analysis and review investment activity on a monthly basis to ensure private investments and infrastructure portfolios are compliant with HOOPP's Investment Policies & Guidelines.
Audit
Assist the Senior Analysts with the external audit process. Prepare supporting documents and files as requested by the auditors. Respond to queries from the auditors.
Support the Internal Audit and Internal Controls Financial Reporting processes, as required.
Work collaboratively with the Senior Analysts regarding audit confirmations, audit requests, and annual GP questionnaire processes.
Other
Assist the team with operational process improvements, engage in initiatives to automate and improve reporting and other automation processes, where needed.
Assist the team with the completion of post month-end portfolio metrics reporting and various other reporting.
What you bring:
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or related discipline.
2. 3+ years similar operational experience in investment or fund accounting for private investments.
3. Accounting designation (CGA/CPA) or working towards an accounting designation is an asset.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is extremely important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
6. Ability to respond to queries on numerous topics effectively and promptly.
7. Prioritize and produce workload in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.
8. Ensure accuracy and completeness of investment data and daily booking activities.
9. Experience with Investran, sub-ledger system, is an asset.
10. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
