We have a wonderful opportunity available to join our team at Liverpool Zoes Place. Liverpool Zoes Place (formally Zoes Place Baby Hospice) recently faced closure, however following a highly successful campaign the hospice is looking forward to an exciting future continuing to provide respite care, and palliative care to children 0-5 years of age with a life limiting or life threatening condition. We are now a new independent charity based solely in Liverpool and in 2026 will move to a new purpose-built hospice location in West Derby Village Liverpool.
We provide complete holistic care for children and their families. As a nurse in Zoes Place you have the time to care. We provide one-to-one care for all children in a relaxed, fun, home from home environment. We are working towards providing end of life care and provide a bereavement service. Main duties of the job
1. Provide individualised holistic care to children with life limiting and life threatening conditions.
2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, working in partnership with the family at all times.
3. Safe transcribing, administration, storage and control of all medication.
4. Exemplary record keeping timely, in accordance with the NMC Professional Code and the hospice policy and procedures.
5. Safe storage of all data and records in accordance with policy, procedure and national guidelines.
6. Adhere to all Liverpool Zoe's Place policies and procedures.
7. Adopt the role of link worker/ primary nurse.
8. Competently take charge of the shift, safeguarding all children and staff.
9. To communicate effectively with all members of the team and wider MDT.
10. Attend clinical supervision.
11. Understanding of the safeguarding policy and safeguard children, parents/carers and staff.
12. Participate in the induction of new staff to LZP.
13. Mentor student nurses during their placement at LZP.
14. Play an active part in the Clinical Governance framework within the hospice.
15. Support the family at the time of death, respecting an individual's beliefs, community, culture and religion.
16. Nurse on call rota within the hospice.
17. Constantly improve and develop practice.
18. Advocate for the child and family.

Job responsibilities
1. Ensure that all aspects of the role specification are met and that the service provided is culturally sensitive and appropriate for all sections of the communities we serve.
2. Take charge on each clinical shift within a nurse-led unit ensuring that staff are supported with and competent to carry out their workload.
3. Lead by example, role modelling high standards that reflect best practice guidelines, organisational policies and the hospice values.
4. Ensure good time management and punctuality and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
5. There is an on-call element to this role.

Communication and relationships
1. Maintain appropriate and respectful professional relationships with patients, families, colleagues, other staff and stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in using an Electronic Patient Record system.
3. Ensure that effective communication is maintained between staff on each shift.
4. Attend regular staff meetings, sharing any information that may be useful to staff.
5. Acknowledge and accommodate barriers to communication and understanding, including speech, hearing, language and emotion.
6. Encourage and champion collaborative team working.
7. Be aware of the Liverpool Zoes Place Freedom to speak up: raising concerns/whistleblowing policy and signpost staff to this policy if they have any concerns.
8. Ensure up-to-date knowledge of the Liverpool Zoes Place Complaints and concerns policy and deal with any complaints in a sensitive and professional manner, with escalation to management when required.
Leadership and management
1. Ability to work autonomously or as part of the team using initiative and forward thinking to continually improve service provision.
2. Work as an effective team member offering support, direction and guidance to junior colleagues.
3. Manage the shift and delegate responsibilities to other staff members as required to support the children, taking account of the complexity of the task, and the skills and competence of the staff member.

5. Represent the establishment at multi-disciplinary and multi-agency forums.
6. Provide support with the induction of new staff to ensure they have the appropriate information and training to carry out their role.

Clinical
1. Work within the principles of the NMC Code, ensure annual registration with the NMC and adhere to their revalidation requirements 3 yearly.
2. Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care needs of an allocated group of children and regularly liaise with their family/carer to ensure these needs are updated.
3. Establish and maintain effective communication with children, families and professionals across health and social care services.
4. Ensure that any new referrals are processed quickly and efficiently and that information is gathered from the appropriate services involved in the child's care.
5. Support transition of children and families to a new facility once they have outgrown the service.
6. Adopt a research-based approach to specialist palliative care as well as general nursing care.
7. Develop and enhance nursing skills as required for the role; this will be led by the dependency and needs of the children accessing the hospice service.
Training, education and standards
1. Share knowledge and expertise with others via informal and formal teaching and participate in the training and education of others, including new members of staff, care assistants and students.
2. Take on a link role in an area of interest and act as a resource in this area for colleagues.
3. Be responsible for your own professional development in accordance with NMC guidelines.
4. Participate in the hospice appraisal system and access training opportunities to improve your own knowledge and skills.
5. Participate in clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision.
Health and safety
1. Comply with all organisational policies, procedures or systems of work and ensure that they are cascaded appropriately to the clinical team.
2. Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or do not do.
3. Ensure a safe working environment by reporting all hazards and incidents.
4. Provide any information requested to assist the Head of Care and the Deputy Head of Care in any investigations of incidents relating to clinical care.
Infection prevention and control
1. Follow all infection prevention and control policies ensuring these are adhered to by all staff, so that patients are cared for in a clean environment and receive the highest standards of clinical care.
2. Ensure that you use the personal protective equipment provided by Liverpool Zoes Place.
3. In the absence of a domestic, ensure that infection prevention and control in the hospice environment is maintained at a high standard.
