Salary: £35,000- £45,000 - pro-rata 46 weeks out of 52 (full-time equivalent). Starting point dependent upon experience and qualifications. (Additional allowance available for candidates with extended experience and qualifications)
Job Description:
Phoenix Learning Communities is a not-for-profit organisation based in the Stoke on Trent area. We currently consist of two schools; Phoenix Independent School which opened in 2011 and The Registry which opened in 2024. Both schools support young people experiencing educational crisis.
We are now looking for a School Manager (non-teaching) to join our team. The School Manager will work alongside the Headteacher and other staff in helping young people to overcome barriers to their success. The role will be pivotal in ensuring students have the best pastoral support and that barriers to learning are eliminated as far as possible, allowing them to achieve the very best outcomes.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The job role of School Manager is unique, and we are keen to develop and shape it with the successful candidate. The responsibilities will be negotiated during the interview and appointment phase, but the guide below should give prospective candidates an idea of what these could entail.
Major duties and responsibilities
Strategic Development
* Providing daily operational leadership and management across the school.
* Development and ongoing monitoring of all statutory and non-statutory policies within Phoenix Learning Communities.
* Deputising for the Headteacher when required, ensuring the school continues to run smoothly in their absence.
* Chairing, attending and contributing to team meetings as appropriate.
* In partnership with the Headteacher, establishing the overall aims and objectives for the school, setting high professional expectations and standards, and ensuring stretching educational targets.
Quality of Education
* Supporting an ethos and providing educational direction which secures effective teaching, successful learning, and achievement by students.
* Supporting the creation of a curriculum that allows students to thrive and achieve academic success.
* Providing occasional, emergency cover for teaching.
Behaviour & Attendance
* Providing effective leadership of Pastoral Care including behaviour, rewards & attendance.
* Setting and implementing appropriate strategies for raising expectations, behaviour, and levels of attendance for all students across the school.
Personal Development & Careers
* Helping to ensure that SMSC/PSHE/Careers is embedded across the curriculum.
* Creating and maintaining an effective relationship with partner schools, businesses, parents, and the wider community.
Leading & Managing Staff
* Providing effective leadership of staff such that all those involved in the school are committed to its aims.
* Supporting the Headteacher to implement and sustain effective systems for the management of staff performance.
Home School Contact
* Maintaining regular contact between Phoenix and home as appropriate.
Partnership Working
* Developing strong and effective partnerships with other schools, businesses, organisations, parents, and the wider community.
Record Keeping, Reporting and Accountability
* Supporting the systems which provide accurate recording of attainment/attendance/behaviour.
Health & Safety
* Ensuring that a safe and healthy school environment is maintained through appropriate and effective compliance with all aspects of school Health and Safety policy and practice.
Resource Management, Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
* Working with the Headteacher to manage the school budgets.
Safeguarding Children & Safer Recruitment
* Ensuring that Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures are rigorously complied with.
