Job Purpose -3 days a week 9-5pm (Barnet)
The post holder will act as a clinical specialist for patients with long term conditions which puts them at high risk of tissue and function loss and for patients’ tissue viability within the team. You will lead on and educate your colleagues and junior staff regarding peripheral vascular disease and tissue viability and be the main contact for this area within your team. The job will entail specialist skills in wound management and sharp debridement of difficult/necrotic wounds and vascular assessments including ABPIs and toe pressures.
Responsibilities:
1. To be responsible for the management of the day-to-day clinical provision of Foot Health Services for your clinics
2. To assist the Clinical Lead Podiatrist in delivering appropriate equitable and effective Foot Health Services.
3. To have a leadership role in developing the Foot Health Service for patients and our team members.
4. To undertake clinical supervision with staff members designated to you
5. To be actively involved in induction of new staff to the team.
6. To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools.
7. To provide emergency treatment for any lesion that is deemed to be urgent and to organise follow-up appointments for the treatment of that lesion as necessary
8. To provide guidance and support to podiatry department packages of care
9. To be able to refer patients directly for some diagnostic tests, such as, bloods and x-rays, and to interpret and act accordingly on data provided therein
10. To develop tailored care packages dependent upon need in order to maintain the patient’s mobility
11. To refer on urgent or exceptional cases to other healthcare professionals and communicate (in writing) with other health or social care colleagues to ensure the patient receives other services/ care required.
12. To work in close collaboration with GP’s and specialist teams including vascular specialists, DN nurses and tissue-viability specialists in all care settings to ensure a holistic approach to the management of the at-risk and high-risk patient is met
13. To support the formulation of a foot screening strategy and implement an education and screening programme in accordance with the National Service Framework for Vascular standards on foot care and NICE Guidance
